A ug 2 00 9 Connecting tables with zero - one entries by a subset of a Markov basis

چکیده
We discuss connecting tables with zero-one entries by a subset of a Markov basis. In this paper, as a Markov basis we consider the Graver basis, which corresponds to the unique minimal Markov basis for the Lawrence lifting of the original configuration. Since the Graver basis tends to be large, it is of interest to clarify conditions such that a subset of the Graver basis, in particular a minimal Markov basis itself, connects tables with zero-one entries. We give some theoretical results on the connectivity of tables with zero-one entries. We also study some common models, where a minimal Markov basis for tables without the zero-one restriction does not connect tables with zero-one entries.

متن کاملMarkov bases and subbases for bounded contingency tables
In this paper we study the computation of Markov bases for contingency tables whose cell entries have an upper bound. In general a Markov basis for unbounded contingency table under a certain model differs from a Markov basis for bounded tables. Rapallo and Rogantin (2007) applied Lawrence lifting to compute a Markov basis for contingency tables whose cell entries are bounded. However, in the p...
متن کاملOn the Diaconis-Gangolli Markov Chain for Sampling Contingency Tables with Cell-Bounded Entries
The problems of uniformly sampling and approximately counting contingency tables have been widely studied, but efficient solutions are only known in special cases. One appealing approach is the Diaconis and Gangolli Markov chain which updates the entries of a random 2 × 2 submatrix. This chain is known to be rapidly mixing for cell-bounded tables only when the cell bounds are all 1 and the row ...
متن کاملMarkov chain Monte Carlo exact tests for incomplete two-way contingency tables
We consider testing the quasi-independence hypothesis for two-way contingency tables which contain some structural zero cells. For sparse contingency tables where the large sample approximation is not adequate, the Markov chain Monte Carlo exact tests are powerful tools. To construct a connected chain over the two-way contingency tables with fixed sufficient statistics and an arbitrary configur...
متن کاملMarkov bases of three-way tables are arbitrarily complicated
We show the following two universality statements on the entry-ranges and Markov bases of spaces of 3-way contingency tables with fixed 2-margins: (1) For any finite set D of nonnegative integers, there are r, c, and 2-margins for (r, c, 3)-tables such that the set of values occurring in a fixed entry in all possible tables with these margins is D. (2) For any integer n-vector d, there are r, c...
